so i have a windows xp computer, service pack 3, i got directx 9 and i have a sound card inside my central unit, inside my computer, so a guy who fixes computer installed a software called Realtek, it's for the audio card you know, anyway, i was cleaning my computer from some junk i downloaded and i accidently deleted realtek and so there's no sound, i tried to install it again but i don't exactly how and i finally installed realtek ac'97 but it still nothing, no sound and i tried VIA AC 97 and nothing, i was going to try soundmax and i couldn't install it for unknown reason, so i need help please i want my sound back i can't play gta san andreas and other games, i can't watch my movies, i can't do anything without sound

Solution
That's more of an indication of a part not being recognised than a simple driver error.

I know this is tiresome but if I was working this one, I would remove the sound card and reseat it, preferably in a different slot.
If you only deleted the download he used to install the drivers, it shouldn't have affected the installation or the sound. Did you only delete files from the Downloads folder?

Are you sure the volume isn't turned right down?

Go into Control Panel>System>Hardware>Device Manager then right click on Sound then Properties. Click the Update Driver button and let the system search through the computer to find the files. It's been a while but I think XP can do that.

i think deleted realtek, accidently, anyway, there's no volume and i tried to search for driver for audio codec, i googled the hardware id, ms_mmacm and nothing, i tried to reinstall realtek ac'97 driver and i after i restarted my computer still no sound and the volume didn't appear, i tried to install realtek high definition audio and nothing, i went to control panel and added hardware, realtek high definition audio and when i opened device manager i found a yellow mark on realtek hd audio, i tried to update it and nothing happened

well, still no sound

XP is a long way behind me but try Control Panel>Sound and make sure the Realtek card and the speakers are set as default. Are the speakers powered or passive and, if so, are the receiving power? Have you tried plugging the speakers into the front ports in case the rear ones have failed?
