After looking around at laptops I am torn between these two:

If I get the cheaper one I plan to make up the difference in price by purchasing a second SSD for it. I am going to use this for school and some gaming but my desktop will be what I normally play on.
some things to note:
-the Asus laptop does not have a IPS screen
-the Asus laptop is lighter and thinner
-I saw in a benchmark between 960m 2gb and 4gb that in parts of Fallout 4 the 4gb had up to a 10fps difference
What do you guys think is the best choice?

The 960m does run games well.. and many games in the past couple of years USE 4 gb of ram. I think you should get the Dell, you arn't going to miss the performance difference between the 2 CPUs in games and things like SSD and RAM can be upgraded later.

Of these two I would recommend the Asus one. It comes with a much larger SSD, DDR4 memory, and an i7. A GTX 960M really doesn't need 4GB of VRAM because it simply won't run games very well if the settings are cranked up to the point where ~4GB is used. The larger VRAM would only really benefit you if you're doing heavy 3D modelling.
