So I had a headset with microphone with a 3.5 mm plug (Sennheiser Momentum On-Ear) and needed to use the microphone on my computer, so I bought an adapter.
The microphone has 3 buttons (volume up, down and pause) which when pressed, make a sound the microphone hears, however the microphone never hears or records my voice.

There's a picture of the adapter cable there, and screens showing the button presses are recognized and recorded by skype, audacity and the computer itself, however my voice is never heard by he computer.
(I can always hear the button presses through the headphones, even with no recording or echoing software open)
Hope you can help, this is extremely bothersome and I need the microphone.

Thank you in advance.
Edit: if by chance you can't open imgur, here.

the microphone has 3 buttons, they are all recognized as sound, but my voice, or any other sound is never recorded or heard.

The microphone is recognized by the computer and detects the button presses, but never voice.

did you try it in the front panel setings and plug it there if it does the same there could be something with the headphones switch also that cable adaptor do you have a friend to test if fro you to see if it not broken on one of the cable, you could also try he line in olption since it show a 2 cable connector in panel .
