i'm tryjng to fix this laptop that works fine, but the cpu and ram seem to grow hotter and hotter untill it shuts itself off during any demanding task. I already removed the dead battery.

I don't want to completely open it, since it's not mine (although it might be dirty and that could be the cause) but it my cousin might sell it to me, maybe. I was thinking of installing windows 98 because it's less demanding, or windows 7 since it has Intel® Desktop Control Center, maybe if i lower the clock it will stabilize, (yes i know it not good to OC with programs, however the bios dosen't have any kind of cpu functions or ram functions).

Is this laptop simply badly overclocked or is winxp too much for it? I already tested it for memory issues, because i was getting an error related to memory problems while trying to archive something with 7zip, but it said everything was fine.

I guess my main question would be if i could fix this without opening the laptop into the motherboard?

I'd say no. It's possible that you have to reapply thermal compound to the CPU. Technically software, can TRY to fix your issue but I highly doubt that will work.
