Xbox one setup

Solution
The HDMI port on a laptop is only for video output to a monitor or HDTV. It does not accept video input. The only exception that I am aware of are Alienware laptops where the HDMI port can be either used for video input or video output.

I suppose there are video capture devices that can be plugged into the USB port so that you can see whatever the Xbox One outputs, but they used for recording video not for playing games. If you attempt to play game, then you are very likely to have a lot of lag because USB has limited bandwidth compared to HDMI.

One HDMI is for output the other is input.

You can't play an Xbox on a laptop. It's so you can connect something to the Xbox's HDMI input.

So you can use it if you're on the Xbox (like a satellite decoder / PC or something)
