I have a Bose Lifestyle 28 Series II... that I am pleasantly surprised to find,
that I can use my BluRay players 5.1 via a Digital Coaxial cable...

So Now... I want to get 5.1 from my PC into this Bose also... What is best?
A HDMI Spiltter? Off of the GPU?
Or some type of USB external Sound Card?

Thanks in advance!

Solution
Realtek/onboard soundcodec/chips are... Not that great IMO and have in some cases deceptive advertising with their 5.1/7.1 support on certain motherboards. Sound is subjective, BUT after comparing my motherboard's onboard "soundcard" compared to my aftermarket SB ZxR, no comparison and has more features.

The ZxR is connected to an Onkyo TX-NR809 AVR (via analog RCA's) and two Klipsch RB-81 II's and a Klipsch RW-12D sub and it's an incredible combo.

Optical out from motherboard to the Bose-unit as others have stated; most cost effective and most simple method. Just ensure that you have DVD/BR playback-software as well, in order to get the most out of the DVD/BR soundtrack(s) and they also have some vid-correction options included as well.

Hey! My TV has a S/PDIF out... conveniently hidden I should say...

Is that perhaps all I need? The TV (Sharp AQUOS) has many HDMI inputs...
So... As long as the S/PDIF works going into the S/PDIF on the BO$E LS28

I should be set? Maybe? I hope?

I got you Sam... I understand. I don't have 5.1 out of my TV with S/PDIF... :-(

OK... Well, I'm set with Digital Coaxial out of my Blu-Ray... Done. Works Great!

But for the PC... I either need to buy a MOBO or Sound Card that has Digital Coaxial
or
Buy a external USB or HDMI Spiltter box as you have all mentioned before.

I'm getting there... I'm so glad you guy's are here. Tom's has helped me in so many A/V PC situations.

I have tried everything but the Monoprice HDMI extractor.

I only get 2.0 from anything else... I am so frustrated and confused...
These devices say 5.1 but they do not deliver...

Now I see people saying that Optical S/PDIF and Coaxail are only 2.0
but I have used both of these out of my Blu-Ray player... and they seem to work.

Why is the PC such bullsh$t? I can run Analog Quad... Why Realtek won't show Analog 5.1?

Why can't a PC do the encoding that a AVR can?
If you have a Blu-Ray player in your PC... it seems it should have
a Sound card capable of being a all inclusive and updatable encoder/pre-amp.
