Help deciding between two laptops

Hi,

I've shortlisted two laptops for college and need help deciding between the two:-

HP Envy 13-ab016nr
Asus Zenbook UX330UA

The specifications are identical [i5 7200U, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB M.2 SSD, 13-inch screen], and the price differs by $30.

Or if you think there is a laptop with similar specs and price which is better, please let me know I'm open to suggestions. (The SSD and screen size are important).

I would be using mostly for programming/browsing, no gaming. Also the OS/bloatware etc. does not matter as I will wipe and install Linux.

If the specs are the same, i'd go buy it by price. But since it's a HP and I have had nothing but problems with their products, i'd advise against it. But that's my opinion. Maybe i'm just unlucky.

I had a HP laptop one, tried to install Linux on it, it was a real pain. I found hard to find drivers and proper configurations for it so i quit and reverted to W8.1 ( pre-installed in it )

So, if you see good reviews on the ASUS one, my vote totally goes for it OP.

I have an older version of the zenbook. 3+years and it has not skipped a beat. Brushed aluminum is great, super light and long batt life.

Hi there

I've just seen your question as I have just posted the same! I was wondering if you had made a decision and if so, which laptop did you go for and what do you think of it? I'm trying to decide between the same two machines and even after trawling through lots of reviews, still can't decide! Your opinion would be very much appreciated!

After a lot of thought I've decided to go for Asus, simply because the company seems to be better. The laptops themselves are virtually identical in terms of specifications, as I'm sure you've seen. I haven't yet received it though, so I can't say anything about the product.

Thanks for your suggestion. I don't know about the OP but in my case portability is important so the Aspire isn't really a contender but thanks anyway!
