Hi guys just asking for opinions really of anyone watching a 4k bluray on a standard 4k tv without hdr. Just watched deadpool on my lg ub820v 55 inch and the quality was better than blu ray but not as good as I was expecting. Anyone else got any opinions from there point of view.

It's difficult to see the difference between 1080p and 4K if you aren't sitting close enough.

The number thrown around is 1.5x (so you have to sit closer than 55x1.5 = 6.8feet.). So about FIVE FEET likely to start seeing a difference.

That's for 20/20 vision and doesn't compensate for any sharpening or other VIDEO PROCESSING the HDTV may do that can alter picture quality.

Forgot about that. It is true that many HDTV's have poor factory settings for color.

I've never used this, and there are other links: http://www.techhive.com/article/2079503/easily-calibrate-your-new-hdtv.html

There are OTHER settings aside from basic color calibration as well.

There are two "issues" to consider:
1) is it the COLOR that is the problem, or
2) is it the SHARPNESS, or amount of DETAIL that's not seemingly improved.

Color might be improved through calibration, but if nothing seems off but simply not much better than BluRay that's likely due to the viewing distance.

Also, even if it's "4K" that doesn't mean the content is necessarily a lot better than BluRay either. Netflix streaming "4K" is about the same, or just slightly lower than BluRay quality as it's 4K but compressed (so uh, what's the point? oh right, you can call it 4K).

DEADPOOL is new so should look visibly better when viewed from about FIVE FEET on your HDTV (55") compared to the BluRay version.

Just FYI, a good 4K doesn't make content look any worse, but if you sit CLOSE ENOUGH to benefit (aside from post-processing sharpening and upscaling changes that may or may not benefit) then the non-HD stuff looks a lot worse.

A LOT of cable/satellite is significantly compressed or showing older shows and sitting too close is really annoying. When you sit far enough a way those issues resolve and it looks better.

Kind of a dilemma... but then most people have no choice anyway due to where the couch or chairs sit.

HDR makes more difference than a 4K video. 4K without HDR is just a increase in resolution so the difference in not that dramatic. HDR with a 10 bit panel gives you better/more colors and brighter brights and darker blacks. Also, not all 4K blu-ray is created equal and some are just a bit better than their Blu0ray counterpart. Check here for 4K Blu0ray reviews:

But bottom line, 4K without HDR is not that much of a noticeable improvement.
