there is still 4GB memory on my asus x55ld laptop but it randomly freezes so i decided to expand the memory to 8 GB.there is a SODIMM slot for expansion. Do i need to buy a another 4GB RAM or 8 GB RAM since there is already 4GB RAM is showing?

Solution
Well, if there's room for one more SODIMM, the cheapest option is to buy another 4GB SODIMM, but match it as close as possible to the other(Clocks,Timings,Latency, even the brand if possible). There is no guarantee that two different SODIMM's will work.
Safer, but more expensive option is to buy 1 8GB SODIMM.

if i add a 8 GB SODIMM RAM that means there are 12 GB RAM since there is already 4GB Soldered RAM which is higher than the maximum asus recommended memory?
