Ok so I have a TCL roku smart tv that I recently just bought and a lenovo ideapad 100s laptop that I just bought, and for some reason when I plug my hdmi cord into my laptop, the tv still says no signal. I know there's nothing wrong with the tv or the cord because I can connect my old laptop just fine. Also when I plug my laptop into other tvs using the hdmi cord it works perfectly fine. I've already tried to duplicate the screen and going into device settings and screen resolution settings and all that stuff and nothing worked. I thought maybe it could be a driver issue since I was having issues with sound not playing after a recent update, and I had to go and reinstall some drivers. Any help is appreciated!

Did you use the alt or ctrl key and the Function key to turn your laptop to external display?
Unplug tv hold power 30 seconds. Turn off laptop take battery out hold power 30 seconds put battery in but dont turn on.connect HDMI. Turn on tv set wait til no signal detected then turn on laptop. Any results at all??
Check physical HDMI with flashlight see if pins bent or missing or corroded, burnt.Make sure is actually an HDMI plug and not the one looks like it lol. Check graphics settings to see if HDMI software switch is turned off (may not be applicable to your particular laptop...). If you use battery doubler or power saving apps may be a problem but I really suspect either the laptop plug is damaged (have you tried lenovo on another...
Try the following...

1. Make sure that the TV's input set to be via "HDMI" and/or select "PC" as the input source on the TV's menu.

2. Go into "Control Panel" and click "Display".

3. Next click "Change display settings".

4. On this screen you should you see all your 'connected displays'. Make sure the laptop is listing the TV as a display.

If this doesn't work, you may want to try a factory reset on the TV.

Find free driver updater *don't pay or sign up (maybe sign up) but never pay! Update windows. Will update day after day sometimes unless you look for updates then do again... This will fix issue or maybe google to see if bios switch. To reset bios switch fund small round battery on logic board gently remive and short terminals 10 seconds (Toshiba may not work)) After that open laptop check HDMI to motherboard pins damaged from mishandling is tricky repairs for some - do things easy first.
Whew!
G'day.
Leave us feedback on results even minor ones and If successful!

Shoot try this first!! your laptop may not be in the range (screen size in settings to be able to use that tv) try all settings in yiur laptop resolution. Turn tv off. Change laptop screen resolution settings then turn off laptop and then tv first then laptop every time.
