Hello, I have old Yamaha RX396RDS sound receiver. I would like to buy CD/DVD/BR player (would like also wi-fi, usb input) that would go with this sound receiver. I was looking at Yamaha BD-S681 player. Is it compatible with my sound receiver (and Samsung TV LE37B651)? Any other options? Thank you.

Solution
There is no compatibility issue with the BD player. Anyone will work fine.
Connect the new player to the TV with HDMI.
Connect the headphone out of the TV to the Yamaha receiver. You will need a cable with a 3.5mm stereo plug at the TV end and 2 RCA plugs for the Aux input of the receiver.
You will need to make sure that the volume set with the TV remote is not so high that it will overload the input of the receiver. If it does overload you will hear distortion that only goes away when you turn down the volume with the TV remote not the receiver remote.
Use the receiver remote for volume control and use the TV remote only for other functions. If the TV has a setting to make the headphone out fixed level that would be best.

Solution

I would rather use "HDMI Audio Extractor" plugged between the DVD/BD and the TV, No need to cripple a nice receiver with processed audio signal.
