I am experiencing an issue never known to manking on my ASUS F555UA-XO193T notebook.

It has a combined headphone and microphone jack and the microphone does not even work. If I use an earphone, the microphone will not work (inbuilt). Even if I don't use a microphone, the microphone will still not work. However the audio works fine.

I need to know if this a computer thing or a Realtek thing. And if possible, how to fix it. I want to start gaming and record videos with a USB Razer Kraken but I'm worried the microphone won't even work...

Runnings Windows 10 on a 64bit.

Please help....

One thing you can try testing is go into "Control Panel" and then click "Sound". click on the "Playback" tab (if it didn't load to that already)
and right click on the background (where it is white) of that window. Then make sure both "Show disabled devices" and "Show disconnected devices" are checked.

Next click on the "Recording" tab and make sure that your headset/mic combo shows in that list. I assumed it showed on the "Playback" tab since you said the headphone sounds work). Make sure then that when that device is plugged in the microphone for it is set as the default for "Recording" and not the laptops microphone.

If you are certain that it is a combo jack (input and output) and you are also certain that your headset/microphone...

If you are certain that it is a combo jack (input and output) and you are also certain that your headset/microphone combo works (having tested it in another device or two) then you may actually need the jack repaired or replaced. If this is the case, and the laptop is still under warranty, then I would contact the manufacturer.
