Hi there,

A friends Satellite L650D laptop came up with an error saying the cooling system had failed and to shut it down, I think this happened a few times.

He rang me and I told him to shut it down straight away. I checked it and the same message appeared so I shut it down and then opened it up to see if the fan was stuffed with dust/dirt.

It was pretty dirty but it looks like the laptop got a knock as the fan casing was damaged (casing pulling apart) and some internal plastics broken off inside the laptop.

Anyway, I replaced the fan but now the laptop won't boot at all, completely dead.

When I plug in the charger only the AC light illuminates on the front. When I press the power button the AC light goes off and all the LED's blink white briefly and then go out, nothing else happens.

I have tried all the usual diagnosis checks and holding down the power button with nothing connected but nothing helps.

I have removed the HDD, RAM, battery and even disconnected the fan but it still shows the same lights on the front when I hit the power button.

Any idea what the light codes mean, I can't seem to find any info on them?

Cheers in advance,
Mac

The motherboard was fried..

I bought a replacement board off eBay and it's working fine again.. Strange that it let me shut down the laptop normally but still fry it while shutting down..

Anyway, all LED's blinking briefly must mean bad motherboard..
