Hi to all your wonderful tech people

I have just accidentally pressed uninstall on my main disk drive (instead of the 16gb usb). My computer is waiting to be restarted to active the command. I am now desperately working to transfer all my files onto an external hard drive before the computer will be shut down.

I assume once shut down all the programs and files will be lost? Is there anyway to stop/reverse the command? What will be the implication of this if I cannot stop it? will I be able to re-install the uninstalled disk drive again?

Will the transfer of my files work now or is the process already secretly in motion!?

PLEASE help I have many years of work on this laptop. Many thanks -- Hara

In what exactly did you press uninstall here? In Device Manager? It should pick it up again when you reboot. At least you will have a backup done now. I doubt you will lose anything unless you formatted the hard drive or deleted the partition or something similar. If you happened to remove the disk drive from Device Manger or ejected it like a portable drive, nothing will actually happen to the drive data. It's the same thing as you removing your engine from the car, unless you smashed it, you can simply install it again and it will work the same as it did.

OMG! Thank you dear friend for replying so quickly - I am still here saving my work!

So yes it was in Device Manager, my stupid USB key wasn't showing up on my computer so I followed Youtube instructions to uninstall the USB but actually I now realize that the USB didn't show up in Device Manager either. It was my ata wdc wd5000LVPX-5 SCSI disk drive (which I think is my C: Drive).

I am back-uping now (before the laptop has restarted) so I assume this will work. So you think that the drive will reinstall and all the files and programs should be there on restarting? Like you said at least I will have back ups. Thank you so much for responding so quickly, as you can probably tell I am not a computer expert!

Also - I have an idea - I still have not restarted my laptop - it still gives me the option up UPDATE this driver (which is in the pending state to be uninstalled) - would that block the uninstall command?

This is funniest thread i ever read in this forum. Human will never get satisfied until when the time they do something to make it more great and superb but actually they do not know what they were doing and at the end accomplished nil I will not answer this thread. Let hang-the-9 customer serviced.
