Preferably, i'd want a convertible Windows laptop with an i5 or i7 CPU, At least 2 usb ports, pen support, and an SD card reader. The price could be lower than (USD) $1000, if possible. 200GB of SSD or at least allows me to exchange the hard drive for an SSD and 8GB ram.

I'd Prefer if there was pen support, but it's not essential

If I were to get a surface pro, can't I get a keyboard that makes it like a convertible. Detachable keyboards scare me and the stand is too uncomfortable for my lap

What did you get in the end? Does it work well?
Pen shouldn't be limiting for convertibles. All will support at least capacitative touch stylus. If you want the accuracy of active digitiser with features like palm block most still support it. Unfortunately Yogas don't.

I summarised alot of models and included a column for pen support in the file linked from here: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/id-3331257/convertible-laptop-roundup.html
