Long story short i brought a new headset with a mic, but my laptop has only one audio jack. The headset itself came with the adapter thing to plug into the audio jack, but when plugged into my laptop the mic doesnt work but speakers do. within my recording devices/playback devices whether its plugged in or not it'll only show the default device. Tested the headset (with adapter) in another laptop which they worked perfectly in, and also in a pc without the adapter and still worked perfectly. I've tried installing Realtek audio management as suggested in other forums, but it tells me "no driver was supported in this package"

Solution
alright well.. i found how why it wouldn't install.. and the realtek driver is now installed... the speakers + mic are working and i feel like a idiot :pt1cable:

...for some reason i had download the 32bit one a few times without noticing that in it was a 32bit one and that there was a 64bit one below it..

so the solution was... install realtek HD audio and make sure its 64bit or 32bit depending on your machine not just the top one xD

Hi!
Check if the jack in your laptop actually is a combo jack. It is weird but it is possible, that it is just a headphone jack. Else, please post the model of your laptop...it makes the blind guesses much easier ;)

Oh well, I suppose that would have been too easy :D. OK then I suppose you're using Windows, so try right klicking the volume icon in the taskbar and go to recording devices. There should be 2 devices listed - laptop internal mic and your headset mic. If this is the case, set the one you want as default and you should be good to go. If only the internal mic is shown, dig around for hidden devices (I believe it should be under right click menu) to see if it's not hiding from you. If still unlucky, most PC have some sort of sound manager - like Realtek Audio Manager or Dell Audio or whatever it is in your case. Try openinng the sound manager app and dig around for the connected devices or jack usage or something like that...this might give you some insight as to whether the pc is actually seeing the mic or just plainly doesn't. The mic should also be visible in win's Device manager (just hit Start and type it...).

Already i step ahead of you ;) already tried going into recording devices and it only shows the internal mic (which it calls default) and I've already got it on view hidden devices. I'm honestly not sure if it does have an sound manager, I've looked into my control panel and the only thing that relates to sound is the "sound" which opens up the recording/playback devices. Is there anyway i can add pictures to this forum thing?

Yes, there is. Either upload them to imageshack or whatever people use these days or go into the full reply form - not just start typing below other replies, but actually click some reply button...that should give you the option to insert pics. One thing I didnt realize is that the sound manager is usually installed with the driver...so drivers are the next part. You said you tried installing some drivers..ar eyou sure you chose the correct ones? All I could find is that the laptop uses HDA, so I blieve this should work REALTEK HDA DOWNLOADS. If not, perhaps try the win 8.1 audio drivers from Acer Website.

hopefully that works, thats with the headphones plugged in aswell, whilst listening to music through them (after i took the screenshot) and they're working perfectly besides the mic.

I never exactly tried installing many drivers only the realtek, which is the same link you sent me and it tells me no driver was supported in this package. Not sure if this is the right one but because that seemed to be a trending solution for most people I'd hope for the best and at least try. Also before i attempt to install the audio drivers from the acer website, would they be compatible with windows 10?

Hmm, all seems to be going against us :D. You don't have to worry about compatibility. 99% of time, it is compatible and prety much the same (you've seen on realtek website the driver is same for 7,8,8.1 and 10). Also, if it is not compatible, you will get an error message before the installation. Worse comes to worst, get something like this.
