Uncloseable website ads when I click on certain links

Hello,
Sometimes when navigating through certain websites I will get an 'ad' type thing pop-up which produces dialogs that cannot be closed as they are infinitely produced. Whenever I close one a new one will open, even if I select "prevent additional dialogs be created". This will mean I have to force close chrome in task manager. Do you think this is a virus on my computer, or something which is normal?
Cheers,
Harrison

Seems like you have some type of virus or malware infection on your PC.

I understand this, but half the time you get pop ups like that on chrome. Ad block will keep you from getting pop ups that you can get viruses from.
