I have both my PlayStation 3 and my Cable Box connected to my Sony HDTV via individual HDMI Cables. The audio is run through the TV and is output through an Optical Audio port (Toslink) to my Pioneer 5.1 system.

When using the PlayStation, everything works great, but when I use the Cable, I get picture but no sound!

I have tried switching HDMI ports and cables; and the audio has worked previously out of the TV speakers.

Any Ideas?

This is the cable box I am using:

The problem is, lots of TVs don't pass surround audio from its HDMI ports to external audio. Don't ask me why they just don't.

So... you can keep everything as is, but you have to tell the TV to ALWAYS DOWNSAMPLE from surround to stereo.

If losing surround is not acceptable, then you need to hook things up differently like this:

All source including cable box + PS3 ---> Pioneer ---> TV. Assuming Pioneer has the required HDMI ports.
