I got a new laptop for christmas and when my brother-in-law was updating it for me it turned off (I havent had details and he avoids the question!) and it turns on goes to the ASUS start screen then goes black and turns off again. It has been doing for 5 or 6 hours now and i have tried every thing that i have been reading on these threads but nothing has worked. If i cant get it fixed soon dad will be getting rid of it and i will not be able to get a new one until next year! Please help if you can. I can get on to the aptio setup utility screen but dont know where to go from there if that will help.

Gotta love when people do something to a device that is yours, but then they won't tell you what they did that messed it up. ;) SMH

Actually, if this is a new laptop, it is probably running Windows 10, and that in itself can be your problem. Sometimes it doesn't like to update right.

First try making sure you are somewhere that the laptop has no way whatsoever to connect to the internet. If need be turn off the modem/router/WiFi where you are. Yes, it may well be working fine (the internet), but it is also probably a major cause of your issue, so turning it off, just for the moment should help. If this is the problem.

Sometimes, when the updates come through there is one, or more, that don't load correctly. Due to this, the computer...

Sometimes, when the updates come through there is one, or more, that don't load correctly. Due to this, the computer will keep rebooting, trying to reinstall the same update. Which won't work, because something went wrong with that file(s). So making sure the device cannot access the internet, and then shutting the laptop off, and turning the laptop back on, should get you past it. Then once you are in again, you can turn on the internet access.

Side note: Don't let anyone mess with your tech unless you know they know what they are doing. ;)
