Laptop screen is blank

My son dropped my laptop, the screen is black. It cost alot to do a screen repair here in South Africa. Can someone please tell what part may be faulty or broken so I know what to expect from the repair store?

Well, it could be a few things.

First, try this...

Turn the laptop off. Connect an external monitor to the laptop. Turn on the external monitor and then turn on the laptop. If you can see on the external monitor, then you need to check the laptops ribbon cable that connects it to the attached display and make sure it hasn't be jarred loose. You may wish to carefully disconnect that cable and then reconnect it. Then restart the device (without the external monitor attached) and see if it will work. If not, then the attached display is probably your issue and will need replacing.

Now if you can't see anything on the external monitor either, and you are sure that the laptop is actually turning on, then your graphics card/GPU is...
