I recently started working for a company that uses some proprietary software that has been having some issues over the years. The original programmer had passed away, and they have since hired someone to come on and fix some things, but it's going to take some time for him to figure it all out. The reason I tell you this is just to avoid any "fix the program itself, and avoid the error" responses. I would love that, and it is in scope, but just not going to be done for a few months.
Anyway, to be vague, our company processes data for clients (like checks and such), and puts the data batches (.asc files, images, etc.) into a shared folder on a server. A proprietary program looks at this folder, and processes the data, putting images into another server, putting data from the .asc files into a SQL server, etc.
The issue is that sometimes that program has issues. Occasionally, an error message will pop up which states "Subscript out of range", and the only option is an "OK" button. When this error message pops up, our production halts. The batches don't process, and in about half an hour someone reports that things aren't going through. Once we click the "OK" button on the "Subscript out of range" error message, the whole program closes, and needs to be relaunched. I have created a batch file which goes and replaces the last processed batch back into the previous folder for the program to process again, as well as any failed batches, and then relaunch the program. I then made a shortcut to this batch on the desktop so that our IT team can easily launch it when they are notified that the program has crashed.
However, I would really like to automate this process. Ideally, I would like some sort of program that listens for error message prompts, and clicks a selected button, and then launches a selected .exe/.bat/shortcut. I came across a program called "ClickOff", which seems to do half of what I was looking for... it definitely can listen for error messages, and then automatically click the 'OK" button on the "Subscript out of range" message... but then I would need something to relaunch the program (ideally through my .bat which transfers the failed files). We need that program to be running at all times. Does anyone know of some application out there that can do this?
