photos on memory card wont show on windows photo editor

I took photos with a 700d canon.I can still read them from my camera but all other programmes on my computer will not...not even via the camera cable..."photo Gallery cant open this photo or video.this file format is not supported or you don't have the latest format of windows photo gallery"
 
Solution
You shouldn't need a program to view them from the camera. You just need to have the camera's memory open on the computer as a folder. Then you should be able to locate the files and see what extension is being used. If it is by some chance one that you cannot read on the computer (the camera settings could have been changed) then you just need to save them to a folder on the computer and convert them to images you can view. "Format Factory" works well for the conversion (of a lot of file types actually, not just photos).
