Have tried almost every known operating system on this laptop with no success. The hard drive failed and the previous owner didn't make a recovery disk. Checked with HP and they could not provide drivers or recovery disk. Originally had Vista Home Premium OEMAct.

When I install Windows 10 everything works except the video. It's a shame because it appears to be a good laptop otherwise

Solution
You can find any driver that has an entry in Device Manager. Right click on it and go to Properties then click the Details tab. Note the four characters which follow Ven for Vendor and the four after DEV for Device.

Input that in the boxes at www.pcidatabase.com and follow the trail to the correct driver. It will usually be the manufacturer's website so it will be safe to download.

I will be very surprised if Linux doesn't work properly. It doesn't have such precious requirements as Windows.
