I recently purchased a ps4 slim that has no optical output just hdmi. my lg tv has no output connections whatsoever. and I have a Samsung soundbar (I connect through Bluetooth with my apple tv so I can have sound on the television) im trying to get sound from my ps4 to my sound bar. any suggestions?

Solution
Most soundbars have an HDMI 'passthrough', so you'd connect the PS4 to the soundbar via HDMI, then HDMI from the soundbar to the TV.
That'll get you sound from your PS4, but it's a lot of messing around with HDMI cables to revert back to Apple TV or cable etc....

I assume an HDMI hub would work:
PS4/AppleTV/Cable etc to hub via HDMI
hub to soundbar via HDMI
soundbar to TV via HDMI

That would eliminate the need to switch cables as you go.....although also negating optical output. Everything would be passed over HDMI and should be controllable at the hub level to determine which device is 'primary' at any given time.

What model TV, what model soundbar exactly? My Sony TV has an HDMI/ARC connection which is used to send sound to the VIZIO soundbar via the HDMI connection on the soundbar. When I plugged the HDMI cable into the TV HDMI/ARC and the HDMI on the soundbar my TV asked me if I want to use that connection for sound, I said yes and it works great.

You were right! Thanks! I just ran hdmi from ps4 into the soundbar hdmi input and then another cable from the soundbar hdmi output to the tv input and it worked!!! I had an extra hdmi cable and the The tv has a separate hdmi input I use for the apple tv so I just switch back and forth with the remote!
