I am looking for a laptop with most importantly a good battery life and a rather firm screen (not a wobbly one). An i5 would be fine, and do you think waiting for Zen is worth it? I want it mostly for school work and watching movies from time to time.

Laptops I have seen that are decent:

Avoid a Dedicated GPU if you want it for just school, waste of money, battery life and weight. Not to mention they run hot. Try looking into the Lenovo T460S or T560. Great build quality. Or the dell XPS series without the dedicated graphics

Honestly, if you are using it to work and watch movies, then spending $1200 is not worth it. I know you want thin, but I just cannot justify $1200 for simple tasks. But if I had to choose, it would be the XPS 15.
