My first gen retina MBP 15" is starting to act strange.
When accessing some of the software the fans start to act like it is overheating (we are only talking about opening Safari, the mail or another software individually!), the screen is much darker than it should be and it randomly shuts down.

What could have caused this and more important what can be done? I am not counting on upgrading to a new one yet - however if the repair is too expensive I might consider upgrading it instead.

Anyone who have experienced anything similar?

My best advice is to bring it to Apple. They'll diagnosis it for free, and tell you how expensive the repair is. You don't need to go through with the repair.

Grrimakis, sorry for the VERY late answer. I did like you suggested and found out that the repair would be too costly, it was the fans, the hard drive and basically everything was off. So I decided not to go with the repair and instead started saving for a new one. Thank you for your answer.
