I have a Toshiba laptop L15W-B1208....lower end laptop. Does theheadset/microphone jack support input of audio for recording from an external source? I want to record select songs from the TV output RCA jacks .... When I tried it di not work. I think it is because I am using a standard stereo jack, and when I plug it in the computer sees it as an Audio Headset Out jack. Any suggestions?

I do not believe RCA jacks allows for input. I would just grab a USB headset. They are not that expensive. You can probably find a decent one for under $10+

your laptop manual is https://www.manualslib.com/manual/871211/Toshiba-Satell...
And on that page it shows the port as being a combo mic/headphones
so its not a standard headphone jack but a 4 line mic/headphone jack like a iPhone jack or Samsung jack... the 1/8" connector has 4 colored lines on it not 3 lines as a normal jack.
