I have an ASUS UX303LN, Windows 10 with latest updates to firmware and OS. Just 3 days ago, it stopped working - would not power on. So after searching some similar threads on your site, I figured out to detach the battery and power on the unit on AC. The unit works on AC but not with the battery connected. Battery charge is full. BIOS is the latest. 204 2014/09/01. All keys on keyboard functional.

I have searched many articles on your site and google as well but I don't think I have got a specific answer yet to this situation.

How can I figure out if it's the power button that needs replacement, OR the keyboard that needs replacement OR the motherboard that would need to be replaced.

I am afraid that if I keep on using it on AC, I might very soon end up with bigger problems.

Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks.

So it is only charging when turned off? It still could be the cord and the battery.

When you tried the cord on the other device, did the other device have a battery in it that needed charging? When a cord won't charge the laptop, or run the laptop, when on, but will charge it when off, it is usually a cord issue.

However if the cord works on the other laptop, and will power it and charge a battery at the same time, your problem is your battery.
If it is running on the charger but not on battery, it could be the battery or the charger. Or both.

Just because it says the battery is at 100% does not mean it actually is. Over time they hold less and less of a charge. They can also start to put out less power than is needed to run the device.

In regard to the cord, well if it won't run with the battery in, but will with it out, try seeing if it will charge when the laptop is turned completely off. If this is the case, the cord may only be partially functioning. They are meant to both run the device and charge at the same time, however if they aren't putting out enough to do both, then they won't work while the battery is in/device is on. Hence the testing it while the battery is in and the laptop is off.

You may also want to see if you can borrow a cord to see if you can get the laptop to run, with the battery in, using a different one. If it will, then yours probably needs replacing.

Just do yourself a big favor and don't go aftermarket with either. While they seem like a good deal, and for some things they are, not for those two things.

Thanks for the response. Certainly gave me some things to ponder. It never occurred to me that the battery could be going down. However I have not verified that yet.

Wanted to add some more info on this. With the battery plugged in and connected, the system did not turn on. And even when I attached the AC it did not turn on. Since I posted the message above, the following has happened twice. The first time, when I plugged in the power cord, the light on the power switch would flash once, and then turn off. Battery charging indicator would turn on. And if I pressed the power button it turned on. Then when I powered it off it would not turn back on. However about 12 hours later left the laptop alone, power unplugged, lid closed; then I opened the lid, tried turning it on - nothing happened. Then hooked on the power cord - power light flashed, and then upon pressing the power button - the system turned on.

Is this an indication that the battery could be weak and needs replacement?

The power cord is fine. I tried it on another laptop and it works fine there.
