I have a hp pavilion g4 laptop running windows 10. The keyboard and trackpad stopped working suddenly but usb keyboard and mouse works fine. Also the brightness adjustment keys on laptops keyboards works untill any other key is pressed. What should be the problem and how to resolve it?

Well it could be a few things. To start try...

1. Uninstall the keyboard driver.
2. Reboot the laptop (yes, without reinstalling the driver).
3. When it restarts it should reinstall the driver.

If that has no effect it may not be software but hardware. If that is the case you would need to check to see if something inside has come loose, or gotten on the keyboard that could be causing it to not register. It may even need replacing.

NOTE: If the laptop is still under warranty do not attempt to open it up and work on it, or have anyone else do that, as it would void your warranty. Instead contact the manufacturer about a repair or replacement.

tried connecting external keyboard it works. what could be the hardware problem?

It could be a loose connection inside the laptop (connecting the keyboard), it could be something stuck inside the keyboard, it could also have had liquid gotten into it and this is the initial cause of the problem.

If the laptop is still under warranty, then you should contact the manufacturer before opening it up, and possibly voiding the warranty. If it isn't under warranty, then you yourself, if you feel comfortable doing so, can open it up and seek to do any repairs (or the replace the entire keyboard if need be) or you can take it to a local tech.
