Hey all,

I recently purchased an ASUS GL502VM, which has red-backlit keys. I use my laptop in dimly lit situations quite often, so these keys were a pretty big plus for me. However, I dropped a bag containing the laptop a few days ago, and ever since then, the keyboard backlighting hasn't been working.

I can't RMA the device, as the laptop now has a few dents (which void ASUS' warranty), and I'd like to try fixing it myself before going to a laptop repair store. So, is there any way I can hope to repair the keyboard backlighting myself?

Thanks!

Since you dropped it, it is completely possible that the connections have come loose for the backlight. It could also be that it just got turned off when it dropped.

You say it is out of warranty, but dents are not a guaranty of that. It can't hurt to contact them about the issue before giving up on getting repair/replacement through the warranty. If they say no, then they say no, but better to try. :)

If that doesn't work, you are probably going to have to open up the device (which would void the warranty, hence saying contact them first) and check the connections yourself (or get a tech to do it).

The ASUS site says that any external damage voids the warranty immediately, but I'll contact them anyway and see if they have any info.

If the laptop isn't covered by warranty, I'll open up the back and check for any visible damage, I suppose, Thanks for the help!
