Hey all, I'm looking to buy my first gaming laptop but there's two I'm stuck between. I'll fill out those questions in the sticky below, but first, here are the two I'm considering:

MSI GE62 Apache Pro-233

Alienware 13 ($1199 config)

I also want to say that if anyone has suggestions other than the two I posted, please let me know, as long as they are close to my budget.

1. What is your budget?
Around $1200.

2. What is the size of the notebooks that you are considering?
MSI: 15.6" / Alienware: 13.3"

3. What screen resolution do you want?
1920x1080.

4. Do you need a portable or desktop replacement laptop?
My laptop is going to be sitting on my desk all day, plugged in. It doesn't need to be super portable.

5. How much battery life do you need?
I'm not worried about battery life since I will never leave the house with it. It will stay plugged in most of the time.

6. Do you want to play games with your laptop? If so then please list the games that you want to with the settings that you want for these games. (Low,Medium or High)?
Yes! The whole point of me getting a new laptop is to play games! I would like to play something like The Witcher 3 or Dying Light on high settings with smooth fps. With my budget, I don't know if that's possible. I'm not really good with hardware.

7. What other tasks do you want to do with your laptop? (Photo/Video editing, Etc.)
I just want a great gaming experience.

8. How much storage (Hard Drive capacity) do you need?
I'm not worried about this, but I guess 512gb minimum.

9. If you are considering specific sites to buy from, please post their links.
I posted their links up above, please see them.

10. How long do you want to keep your laptop?
Preferably a few years.

11. What kind of Optical drive do you need? DVD ROM/Writer,Bluray ROM/Writer,Etc ?
I guess I don't have a preference. Any games I would play are on Steam.

12. Please tell us about the brands that you prefer to buy from them and the brands that you don't like and explain the reasons.
I'm open to anything, but I've heard Alienware is overpriced. Some guy at Best Buy praised MSI. Again, I'm open to anything as long as it can game well and is near my budget.

13. What country do you live in?
USA.

14. Please tell us any additional information if needed.
Numerous websites praised the Alienware 13, but I'm assuming they were talking about the most expensive configuration. The $1199 Alienware 13 has a 1366 x 768 resolution which sounds awful to me, but if it can run games super well then I might have to deal with it.

There's a $1499 Alienware 13 config that looks better, but is it worth the extra cash? Just please let me know the best options. I'm open to anything even if they aren't Alienware or MSI.

Thank you SO much, I am very grateful for any responses.

hello,

Please find my recommendation below. This laptop is superior specs wise to the ones you listed:

or if you want 15inch:

The MSI linked in OP is a 970m.. old model laptops. Way over priced.

Alienware 13, the biggest problem with the cheap loadout of the 13" is its a 720p screen! Dont even bother with it.

The asus are ok... if you can stomach the red color scheme..I can't.

If you are like me and would like some color in your color scheme, throw a few more dollars at the msi, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?item=N82E16834154302

Solution
If it is going to sit on your desk plugged in all the time, why would you want a dinky little 13" screen with such a crappy resolution? My laptop does the same, and because of that, I refuse to settle for anything less than a 17 inch display that is full HD. :D
