I just recently got the ASUS Strix ROG GL502VM with the 1060 and I'm trying to configure 1920x1080 @ 120hz on my monitor through an HDMI cable. I've tried to find as much information about it as I can, and from what I can tell the HDMI 2.0 and 1.4a/b are compatible with 120hz but for whatever reason it's not appearing under my advanced display properties. I've tried multiple HDMI cables one with 27.0 Gbps and the other 18.0 Gbps transfer rates. I've got a desktop that's sitting next to me and it is able to display the 120hz on the monitor, so it's not the display. Although I was using a DVI-D dual link adapter rather than an HDMI. (It might be worthwhile to mention the monitor is 3 years old, so maybe the HDMI in port on the monitor just doesn't display it.) I've gone into the Nvidia Control Panel and even set a custom "resolution" at 1920x1080 @ 120hz. I got it to display, but it cut off the bottom and top part of the screen as if the resolution was too low. After doing that, the 120hz option now appears in my windows 10 advanced display properties, but it still has the same issue with the cut screen when I tried to apply it.
I got in contact with Asus earlier today through the live chat, and I he told me the laptop supports HDMI 1.4 and 120hz on a separate display. I've been trying to figure this out, looking all over the web for some answers but everything leads to a dead end. I was hoping that by posting on here I'd hopefully get some advice and lead me in a new direction because I'm coming to a complete stop! I just feel like there's something extremely simple that I'm overlooking. If it's the HDMI please recommend an alternative! I'm almost certain it is at this point because in the Nvidia Control Panel it says Connector: HDMI - HDTV. So is it just assuming it's an HDTV? And if that's the case... Is there a way to trick it into thinking it's a monitor?
Please ask as many questions as possible! I'd provide as much information as possible, and screenshots if needed! But this is really throwing me for a loop!
