what are good characteristics of a lap top for photo editing (PS, LR). i5, i7? HQ? video card? does 4k make a difference in 15.6" screen? any example of a good contrast, color transmission laptop? budget 1500$ prefer less that that

You can watch the following review from 2015 that compares a Dell XPS 13 with a 1080p screen and a Dell XPS 13 with a 4k screen to help you determine which may be best for you.

A dedicated GPU can help especially if you use effects that can take advantage of GPU acceleration. The more of these types of effects you use the more beneficial a dedicate GPU will. Not all photo editing effects makes use of the GPU though.

I would say that the Dell XPS 15 9550 with the quad core i5-6300HQ and GTX 960m should be sufficient for your needs. The 1080p screen is very color accurate right out of the box and will be fine for photo editing. However, if color accuracy is supremely important then it is always a good idea to use a good colorimeter to ensure the best possible color accuracy. It is within your budget with a price of $1,250. However, a Dell XPS 15 with a 4k resolution screen is out of your budget with a price tag of $1,700.

You don't need to spend that much money to get a decent photo editing laptop

Because photo editing is optimized for 1 or 2 cores. If you were talking about video editing, you'd need 4 cores

It is more important that you get a laptop with a good screen, then throw and SSD on it, and you are ready to go

I guess that an i7 6500U or 7500U will destroy for that use case. The built-in GPU is already very good for photo editing

And regarding 4K, it is worth it. It does make a difference, 4K in a smartphone would be stupid though
