Is there a way to backup a program and restore it after Windows reinstallation?

Hello everyone.

I have this open source media center program and it takes a lot of bandwidth, time and effort to arrange media collection. I upgraded from Win8.1 to Win10 so not to mess with it but windows has lots of issues and a clean installation is needed.

Is there a way to backup the program and then restore it after the clean install so that the program doesn't feel that there was a reinstallation?

There is a method that involves a plugin in the program which basically backing up the settings and transferring data folders, and reinstalling the program then data and setting, but it doesn't really work.

Not really, no.
It (whatever this application is) needs to be installed from its original install media.

Maybe you can find and save the settings, but the actual application probably needs to be reinstalled.
What is it?
