I have connected my pc to my tv with a hdmi to dvi adaptor. I have a P8Z68-V LX motherboard with onboard audio. I have a Sony Bravia KDL-20S3000 20 inch widescreen TV.

When I rightclick on volume icon and then playback devices I get 3 options:
Speakers
Realtek digital output (realtek high definition audio)
Realtek digital output(optical) (realtek high definition audio)

I have tried updating sound driver and chipset driver.

Can anyone help?

Wait, hdmi at pc and dvi at tv?

or dvi at pc to hdmi to tv?

Coz most gpus these days support sending audio over dvi (not all) but TVs generally don't (this statement may be horribly outdated). So if you're sending DVI to the hdmi of the TV it might work depending on gpu. If you're doing it the other way around you might have to try this.

Integrated GPUs doing audio over DVI . . . well, if it has worked before I suppose this one does that. Although you may need to post your specific cpu for someone to track that down.
