I am looking to add a 2nd HDD or SSD to my HP Envy 17. Is it still possible to get hold of the parts in the UK to do this? Didnt really want to be buying parts from US.

Solution

My bad - some HPs can accomodate two hard drives and I should have checked yours was one of them. The USB caddy will work and you can buy them on e-Bay in England for under a tenner. It comes with a triple ended USB cable because you need power to run the disk and extra connection to run the data.

I'm not recommending this one

Sorry I wasn't very clear with my question. I was referring to the caddy and cable kit. When I search online it only seems available from th US. If there is an alternative I would be grateful for your advice. Thanks.

but it's the first one I found on ebay.co.uk.

If it's for backup purposes, the safest place for it when it's not in use is in a fireproof box..

Solution

I think he means something like this, so he can mount a second drive internally:

https://www.amazon.com/HDD-Cable-Caddy-Envy-J000/dp/B00GIGJYBG

Would this work?

https://www.amazon.co.uk/HP-Secondary-dv7-7000-dv7t-7000-dv7t-7xxx/dp/B00R6HNLSI/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1479316970&sr=8-2-fkmr0&keywords=HDD%2FSSD+Cable+%26+Caddy+for+HP+Envy+17%2C+17t%2C+m7

No caddy, but maybe the drive could be held in with 2-sided tape.

EDIT: Maybe not, looks like the connector is different. Drat!
