Lg smart tv 48" model 47LV5500 went black with no sound. Turned off and back on, still black and no sound, power does work. The input button doesn't work and neither does premium bottom. Is there a solution.

Solution
Hello.

These TVs have known issues with the main board. Sometimes, it's because the EEPROM fails and needs to be replaced. If you are good at soldering, then you can try changing it yourself, but it's a very delicate job:
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/LG-Main-Board-EEPROM-NAND-Flash-Repair-Kit-for-47LV5500-LG-frozen-on-screen-/141844397410

Otherwise, the main board needs to be replaced. This can be very costly, but some companies offer a repair. To confirm your main board part number, you will need to open the tv and check directly on the board. There's many different boards for this model, and failure to do so can make you buy the wrong one.

I said 6 months because that's what some LED TVs last around here. Especially RCA models. And there's no warranty past that. No way to get your money back besides suing RCA.

Expected time is around 8-10 years. But most LED LCD will never get past that.

It's Canada. The law gives no fixed amount of years, only thing said is "reasonable". There's no fixed amount of years. If you paid your TV 200$, they'll probably say that 4 years is reasonable.
But I can personally confirm that LG, Samsung and many other LED tvs are not made to last that much. The LEDs are driven too high and do not have enough thermal dissipation to last more than 10 years. It's wanted by the company. (RCA just makes junk though. They often catch on fire, burn up, etc)

But yeah, we're derailing this. Let's wait for a response...xD
