The issue isn't with the socket...it's more that the motherboard or bios might not support another processor without issues.

If you're really desperate for a less than 20% increase in power, you can try a i7-640m. These sell on ebay for around 60$.

It is the exact same package as your CPU. But, it is in no way guaranteed to work, nor has anyone tried it as far as I know.

no the cpu is not soldered to the motherboard. the socket is pga988a
