USB 3.0 Ports Not Working

Hi,

Recently I replaced my laptop's hard drive with an SSD as the hard drive it came with wasn't just slow, it rendered the laptop almost unusable. When I did so I decided to install Windows 7 (it was originally running Windows 8/8.1, one of the two at least) when I installed this I naturally had issues retaining drivers as you'd expect but have got most of these working so far. The one remaining issue I have is getting my laptops two USB 3.0 ports to work, finding it very difficult to get drivers for. The laptop is a Toshiba Satellite L50D-B-151, linked below. Any ideas on how to get these ports working/find drivers for them?

Contemplating upgrading to Windows 10, don't know if that'll make drivers searching any easier or not but I imagine it'd be easier than trying to get usb 3.0 drivers for older software.

Hey, thanks for the suggestion.

It doesn't seemed to have worked. I opened the application and it seemed to add some files to my system, it then came up with a "do you want this program to make changes on your system?" windows, I clicked yes and saw nothing afterwards. Do I maybe need to restart or am I doing something wrong?

Yes, try restarting your PC. Most drivers need you to do this. Then test your USB ports and if they work.

If the program did nothing, try isolating those files it copied? You can then manually add the drivers using the Device Manager in windows.

If it is an AMD laptop then it might be using the AMD USB 3.0 chips:

The thing is that Windows 8 and 10 both have an integrated USB 3.0 driver so when this laptop was made it was made for Windows 8 and probably after 7 was dropped from mainstream support so they never put the drivers up.

If it is not then we would have to find out who the USB 3.0 manufacture for the chip is to find the drivers.

The drivers are posted earlier are directly from the Toshiba site. They are the Windows 7-64bit AMD USB3 drivers that the company suggests.

But if it doesn't work for some reason, that link to AMD might indeed work.

If the direct link does not work then the USB ports might be done by other companies, such as if it is an early motherboard before AMD had USB 3.0 drivers then it could possible be a USB 3.0 driver made by ASMedia (which is Asus, or even possibly Realtek etc).

Unfortunately I cannot find ANY reference to what chipset it uses. It might be using the A50M chipset which does not have any USB 3.0 lanes so it would be a third party USB chipset.

Thanks to all for the help! Downloading the AMD driver chipset worked for me in the end. Restarting didn't seem to do the trick for the toshiba drivers.
