Hello all

This is a bit of a strange one and im not sure if its a problem with the screen or something to do with the settings on this laptop.

Basically it would lose the time and date everytime i shut it down, so i replaced the CMOS battery and that resolved that issue. However, as soon as i had done this it created a new problem with the screen.

When i start the laptop it shows the Microsoft start up logo, then it shows the screen where its loading the Operating System, then it goes blank!

This may sound like the screen or the inverter is faulty, however, if i start the laptop in Safe Mode, the screen works perfectly fine :??: At first i thought it was the new CMOS battery, so i removed it and put the old one back in, it worked fine the first time i started it up and then went blank after 5 mins rather than 5 seconds.

Anybody able to shed any light on this before i go and replace the screen?

In order to replace the CMOS battery i did NOT touch or remove any connections for the screen at all.

By the way, the laptop is running Windows Vista Home Premium edition.

And in Safe Mode or Windows Memory Diagnostic Mode the screen works perfectly for over half an hour that i have tested it. It does not go blank in these 2 modes.

If the thing will run fine in "Safe Mode" but not normal mode, then something is running/loading on the computer when not in "Safe Mode" that isn't loading when it is in it.

Unfortunately there isn't really a short cut to this other than trial and error to find out what it is that is loading that is the cause.
