Hi all,

I am looking for an Ultrabook for the GF, she needs it for work, and she'd be mobile a lot, so portability and battery life is of most importance. Performance, storage, screen are important but not as much. Budget is around $800

We have narrowed down the list to Dell XPS 13, and Asus UX305... albeit Asus has so many different configurations it is super confusing (UX306, flip, zenbook, etc...).

Biggest question is, core i3 performance vs. Core m? Dell XPS 13 with i3, ONLY comes with 4GB/128 SSD, which I think it's too low for both RAM and Storage, while Asus comes with Core m3/m5 but most configurations have 8GB Ram/256 SSD. So, not sure which would be a better option?

Thanks

Get a 14 inch core i5 laptop

That is due to the photo editing stuff, nowadays most cheap laptops are capable of doing all the other stuff with no problem

Core M is the same as a Core i3. The Core M saves more power by having a lower stock clock speed and smaller die size. In the $800 price point ASUS wins.

Have you tried looking at the Microsoft Surface/Surface Pro Series? What about an iPad Pro?

She needs a PC, iPad Pro is a joke, I have one and it's terrible. It's not as good as a laptop, not as iPad. Surface would be great but she doesn't like the keyboard and using it on her lap. So sticking to regular ultra book form factor.

So, Core m is the same as Core i3? Didn't know.

I'm unable to help you you need to specify what type of work she is going to perform

I mean what do you mean by work? Office stuff, photo editing, gaming, video editing, modeling?

You mention performance though if you want it for basic stuff even a celeron CPU has all you need

Work is limited to a lot of emails, excel work with large files, lots of presentations (ppt), some photo editing and website management. No video editing.

I don't think he is going to have any problems by getting a core i3 CPU and concerning latitud series they are enterprise laptops and you'll be paying the extra cost for the extra enterprise functions
