Well if it will only turn on when connected to the charger, I would say the battery is toast and needs replacing. Hence why it won't run on the battery alone.

If the device is still under warranty, then I would contact the manufacturer about a repair/replacement. If it isn't under warranty, then you will have to look into replacing the battery yourself, or hiring someone to do it for you.

NOTE: Avoid after market laptop batteries. While I am a fan of most after market stuff, and much of it works really great, laptop batteries and laptop charger cords do not fall into this category. Best to go OEM in such cases.

Ok here goes but keep in mind im a proper newbie asking some ridiculous questions. But, I have always used LENOVO.
I used to have a problem with my old lenovo which is now about 12 years old so the person who told you your battery is toast may wel be right. You see my old LENOVO used to do unexpected things like only run on battery and then after 10 minutes post shut down which was a pain in the arse start to recharge using the recharger.

I think you have to go to your advanced power settings and check out how many minutes you have set it to before it starts using the battery. Its stating the obvious but just make sure you've not set it to 'never'
