I have an HP laptop that when plugged in and powered on, will instantly restart on itself, and the CPU fan will run at max speed. The screen will remain black, there is no beep sequence; only, the fan running at max speed. Very rarely (like 1-out-of-10 tries) will I be able to connect to the BOIS or the Windows boot screen. In situations where I do, it's only a matter of time until it shuts down on itself, restarts, and the only thing running is the CPU fan at max speed.

I've tried starting the laptop with the battery removed: no good
I've tried starting the laptop with the power cable removed: no good
I tried removing/swapping/replacing the RAM: no good
I've tried booting off a Live USB: restarts before it fully boots
While in the BIOS, I tried doing a hard drive test: The laptop will restart before it finishes
I let the computer run without touching anything: 15+ minutes of only the CPU fan running, and nothing else occurring.

If anyone can help me, I'd greatly appreciate it.

That model line was infamous for GPU overheating issues.... sounds like that may be what you are experiencing.
It is either the GPU burnout issue or just a bad motherboard in general. The reason for it restarting and high fans is most likely due to overheating issues, either caused by the GPU overheating. System will shut down when overheating to protect itself so to speak.
There's not much to be done other than replacing the motherboard.

That's unfortunate to here. The laptop is 5 (or so) years old now, and just started acting up. I suppose upgrading to a new one is the best option.

yeah, I do a lot of repair work at my store, and I gotta say, the time, cost and effort involved in fixing something, that will down the line most likely have the same issue again, really outweighs the value of the machine. If you were a customer I would suggest a replacement laptop before I would take your money to fix a DV6.
