I was watching the television and suddenly I must have pressed something on the comcast remote and it lost the hdmi connection and went to static, saying 'cable 3' and saying weak signal. I pressed my television remote and pressed 'source' and upon choosing hdmi it came back on...BUT...I no longer had my toshiba dvd recorder.
Prior to this, my television/cable would not work unless the dvd player/recorder was on...but now the dvd recorder/player does not show up as having any effect. I cannot play a dvd and if I turn it on or off it does not reflect.
Prior to this I it was set up to record from the dvr to the dvd. Now, it's null and void.I cannot think what happened since nothing was jostled and no cables were loosened.

Solution
The cable box HDMI output is not likely to be connected to your DVR. These usually only have analog av connections.
Play a disc in the DVR and check all the inputs on the TV. When you see the DVD playing you are on the correct input.
You should only go through the TV DVR input for playback since it won't pass the HD signal that the HDMI feeds your TV.
