Hey,
It's almost 2017 and I find myself playing Xbox One games much more frequently than I'd like, because my laptop can't run the games coming out today. I have an MSI GT70 that I got a few years back, and I would like to upgrade the CPU, GPU, and RAM. Is this possible, let alone cost effective? I'd like to get back to doing most of my gaming on PC, but I don't have the cash to build an all new PC like I'd like to do. I've read other threads suggesting that it is possible, but I need to know where to find the hardware also.

Yes, easily doable.
Cost effective? Doubtful.
What are your current CPU and GPU?

Which ASUS do you have, if I may be so nosy?

asus x751lav
yeah, I know, its a piece of crap, but I got it for 200 bucks

Nothing wrong with that! Even though now discontinued, a new MSI GT70 would have cost you at least $1200, even at the end of its production run when prices dropped.

And at least your ASUS is a couple pounds lighter.
