Hey guys,

I'm in the market for a used Macbook. I need this thing to be fast for web-browsing and word processing primarily, and a little gaming muscle wouldn't hurt too (World of Warcraft, League of Legends, etc). I was thinking about going for a 2012 Macbook Pro because it's the most recent version of the Macbook Pro that was upgradeable-I want to max out the RAM and put an SSD in for the main drive and a HDD in place of the optical drive. I was thinking of going with a 15" model because it comes standard with the i7, and most screen real-estate (and probably better cooling because I would like this thing to last a while), but I'll take any advice into consideration. Also, how much should I expect to pay?

Thanks,

well if your buying a mac then your going to be paying more then you should no matter what :D, you would be better off going with a microsoft product at 1/4 the price and maybe even better performance

First off, buying used laptop, budget another $150 because the original battery is probably on its last leg. Can certainly go for 3rd party (cheaper) battery but hose are crap-shoots.

Macbook, just make sure the model you pick can take standard SSD, I dunno which models take Apple proprietary SSD.

Am not a gamer, but I notice folks into gaming want a dedicated GPU, hence few folks buy MacBooks for gaming.

I'll be honest- I've just had bad experiences with laptop PCs. My desktop at home is awesome. I had a macbook like 10 years ago and tho the battery is toast now (as well as the screen), the thing still works, and works quite well for something a decade old. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I know that macbooks are just like any computer and that they aren't perfect, but I just want something that is really good quality that'll last me a while.

Yeah I'm definitely going to upgrade to SSD when I get one.

And yeah I know that macbooks aren't great for gaming, although I will say I was impressed with how the gtx 950m was handling GTA 5.
