Hi all- I read the other postings and tried what was suggested. Removed battery and unplugged...pressed and held the power button down. Did not work. I removed the battery and plugged the laptop back in for 12 hours to charge the cmos battery since the laptop was not plugged in or used some some time...that has not worked. Open to suggestions at this point. Thanks very much.

Thanks for your help. The white indicator light is on. I tested the wire And it's carrying power. I don't own a voltmeter.

Is there any response at all to the pushing of the power button? E.g fan or HDD start up before power off again.

Could possibly be a faulty button

The button comes on white and I hear something, either the fan, hd or the DVD (empty). Then it's stops. When I hold it down for 8-10 seconds the power button will blink white 3 or 4 times.

The blinking of the power button LED is almost certainly an error code for some sort of power issues. Usually requires a bit of effort sifting through manuals to find your specific issue, but very likely that its the charger.

If possible, find a new charger to test with, or a friend that you can borrow one off.

Alternatively, find someone with a multimeter and ask them to test the charger against the expected output voltage/current that will be noted on the charger

Thanks! And what have you done? I think it is probably the motheboard...which will be a pain in the ass!

The worst part is that my laptop has 4 months and is still in the warranty period...but i am in spain and apparently ouside the US the warranty is not valid!!!. I will never buy a toshiba again
