My TV has 4 hdmi inputs and 1 digital optical output for audio. My ps4 and cable box each have 1 hdmi and 1 digital optical audio port. My soundbar only has digital optical input to use. How can I get both my ps4 and cable to output sound through the soundbar at its highest quality possible?
Solution
There should be no disadvantage connecting the PS4 and cable box to the TV with HDMI and using the TV optical audio out to the soundbar.
If you wanted to bypass the TV for sound you could use an external HDMI input selector with audio extraction like this one

but IMO it's a complete waste with your soundbar.
