Hallo,
I have a Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E540 laptop. It used to have a problem with starting up but I used to solve this problem by removing the bios battery and reconnecting it again, But now this solution is not working anymore. And all I get when I start the laptop is a completely black screen but the fan is working and the red light over ThinkPad at the right down corner of the laptop is on. And the green light at the "fn" button is also on. I am thinking that my bios chip is corrupted. And I am thinking to replace it. Do you think that this is the right thing to do?
Note: when I remove the RAM it give me the beep voice when pushing the start button.

Can you please help me? What do you think about this issue? My laptop is out of warranty already.
Thank you very much and best regards
Ala

So the display isn't working but the laptop is, is that correct?

Try turning off the laptop, connect an external monitor, turn on the external monitor and then turn on the laptop. Can you see everything load then? If yes, the problem is the attached display or the ribbon cable that connects it.

If you can't see anything on the external monitor as well, then it may well be the graphics card is toast.

Okay , you think so ?!!

i was thinking its a Problem of BIOS Chip`s and i was thinking to Replace them (Dual Chip`s) !!!

so if you think its the Graphics Card, so what should i do now ? any suggestion ?

Thank you in advance

95% of the time, if not more, when nothing will show on both the attached display and an external monitor, it is the graphics card.

While I can't say is couldn't be the chip, it seems less likely. You would need to check your device to see if the graphics card is replaceable on its own, older ones usually can be, or if it is going to need the whole motherboard replaced.

However, before doing anything, is the device under warranty? If yes, contact the manufacturer as they should repair or replace it for you. If not, then you are free to do the work yourself, or take it to whomever you wish.
