go to nvidia control panel

click

manage 3D settings

if you want it to always use the nvidia gpu then click global settings and change to the 960m and click save(not it might freeze for a few seconds)

if you want program specific then click program settings and add the programs you want and change the selected gpu to the 960m

thanks for the fast reply i have done that and tried that that does not want to work at all

Bear in mind that if you configure the Nvidia GPU to be used for everything (ie globally) the laptop battery won't last as long between charges (since the default Intel GPU uses less power).

Only games and other graphics-intensive applications require the high performance Nvidia GPU so by making it the default for everything you are just reducing battery life unnecessarily.

The primary reason for having switchable graphics is to avoid high battery consumption when high-performance isn't needed, that's why the default GPU for normal Windows tasks is the Intel one.

Nothing there really. What are the options under system information? You need to llok for something that says PCI/PEG/IGP etc. Perhaps it is configured in a way that doesn't allow you to set from BIOS and can only be changed inside Windows. Maybe try pressing ctrl+f1 as you enter BIOS. Sometimes that will give hidden options. The problem with laptops is that they often hide half the settings. A BIOS update may help too

I had the same problem, couldn't find any answers on the web. Everyone just says "Goto your Nvidia control panel and change global settings". Duh! That is the first thing I tried and didn't work at all. That answer is no help at all.

The real problem/solution for me was in the monitor, the graphics card drivers were up to date but the laptop had the wrong monitor drivers. It was using the "Basic Microsoft Display" which couldn't change resolution, couldn't brighten/dim the display, and prevented the Nvidia GPU from being used. I went into Device Manager and uninstalled the monitor driver, then clicked the button to search for a new driver online. It ended up installing the "Generic PnP Monitor" driver which I don't think is right but now at least I can change resolution, brighten/dim the display, and use the Nvidia GPU in game.
